Maintenance – Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate

Weed clearance of Dukes Lake

The Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate boasts a wide range of outdoor amenities for patients to use whilst undertaking treatment. These tranquil outdoor surroundings are vital to enable patients to recover and recuperate both physically and mentally during the rehabilitation process. The Dukes Lake is one of the facilities that the patients can use for a wide range of activities such as fishing, painting, drawing or photography and is a very peaceful place.

Unfortunately a build-up of weed had prevented fishing, so the Greenfields team were tasked with undertaking clearance of the lake. This was carried out using a Neptune Rake, a handy piece of equipment that can be floated across the lake to the precise area needed. Once in a position the rake is dropped to the lake bed where it can be winched back to land gathering weed as it goes. Team members follow along with hand rakes collecting any remaining weed floating to the surface.

Although this may seem like an invasive procedure, it’s really important to keep lakes clear from excessive weed. Not just for human use, but also to encourage a healthy ecosystem within the lake. An excess of weed can snuff out healthy ecosystems reducing oxygen levels in the water putting aquatic life at risk.
